Chocolate Dates - Are they Healthy For You?

Chocolate dates are one way to satisfy your chocolate cravings while maintaining a healthy life. And yes, you don't only need to eat them during Ramadan. Let’s have a look at their benefits!

Contains Numerous Nutrients

Dates alone are a powerhouse of nutrients. These small, sweet treats are filled with nutrients, vitamins and minerals. In fact, consuming one date provides you with 1-2% of your daily calcium, iron and potassium requirements.

Adding chocolate tops off the nutritional benefits. Chocolate is rich in antioxidants and minerals like magnesium and potassium, and can help in improving your brain’s cognitive abilities while your body regulates blood pressure, promoting heart health.

Part of managing your weight involves reducing your food intake, right?

Well, that's precisely whatchocolate dates offer. When moderately included in your diet, they provide the feeling of fullness, reducing your likelihood of eating more.

Additionally, the high fibre content and relatively low calories in chocolate dates also help reduce cravings for sugary snacks and provide a natural energy source throughout the day. So, even though you are not eating much, your energy levels will still be high.

Promotes Bone Health

If you have a 5-year-old in the house, you might want to shop for dates now!

Chocolate dates contain abundant minerals responsible for teeth and bone development. Magnesium and calcium are some minerals that work wonders in promoting your loved ones' healthy teeth and bones.

If you are having a long day at work, chocolate dates are one convenient snack to help you finish that day in style. Chocolate is known to have compounds like theobromine and phenylethylamine, which boost your mood and reduce stress levels.

High in Fibre Content

We all can agree that we desire healthy digestive systems. Foods rich in fibre are essential as they help regulate bowel movements.Chocolate dates are the best alternative for foods rich in fibre. Ingredients

  • 12 dates
  • 200 g dark chocolate
  • ½ cup of crunchy peanut butter
  • Toppings like chopped nut or rose petals (optional)

Steps to Follow

  • Cut the dates almost halfway through to remove the seed.
  • Add peanut butter( 1 tsp)  to the opening you made and gently close it without squeezing the peanut butter out.
  • Put the dates in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. This makes it easier to dip in the chocolate without the peanut butter spilling out.
  • Melt the chocolate over a low heat. Once melted, transfer into a bowl for easier dipping.
  • Remove the dates from the freezer and dip each date into the melted chocolate. You can use it to dip the dates.
  • Once each date is fully covered with chocolate, quickly add your desired toppings as you transfer them to the wire rack for some baking. Ensure the wire rack has some paper underneath to catch the chocolate drips.
  • After baking, place in the fridge for 30 minutes and serve them.
  • Store the leftover chocolate dates in the fridge to prevent melting.
