Cover Girl Cosmetics Names Muslim Beauty Blogger As New Ambassador

  • 2 min read

As Islamic fashion continues its march into the mainstream, it is crucial that large publications embrace the ideas and fashion tips that can come from some of the most knowledgeable experts in the Islamic fashion industry.

This is why it is so encouraging to see that Cover Girl Cosmetics has welcomed renowned Muslim fashion blogger Nura Afia into the fold. Afia has developed a reputation over the last few years for offering tips, advice and her own insight to her blog’s followers, making her an ideal source for the latest in Islamic fashion.

Her YouTube channel has more than two hundred thousand subscribers and she has created tons of videos that look at her makeup techniques and how she uses an array of products to achieve her look, all combined with some of the latest in Islamic fashion. Many of her videos have also received hundreds of thousands of views, with her “smoky eyeshadow” technique being a particularly favourite on the video sharing site.

The deal will also see Nura Afia appearing in commercials and on a billboard in New York’s famous Times Square, all while sporting a fashionable Hijab.

Why This Is Important

Again, we come down to the issue of bringing Islamic fashion into the mainstream, which is also something the team at Jubbas hopes to do through our website. Afia’s appointment as a brand ambassador for Cover Girl will see her join the ranks of a number of prominent supermodels and celebrities, demonstrating that the fashion world is more than open to embracing everything that Islamic fashion hopes to bring to the industry.

Afia is also breaking barriers, as she will become one of very few women to ever appear in a major advertising campaign for a large cosmetics or fashion brand while wearing a Hijab.

Speaking to Refinery29, Afia said: “I grew up being insecure about wearing the hijab, and I never thought I would see Muslim women represented on such a large scale.

“I hope [this campaign] will show Muslim women that brands care about us as consumers and we’re important, especially hijabis. We can be featured on TV, can be featured on billboards in Times Square, can be represented.”

Cover Girl has been working hard to diversify its offering and shed light on areas that may not get the attention they deserve. In addition to appointing Afia, the company has also recently signed its first “cover boy” in makeup artist James Charles.

Out View

We believe that progress that Islamic fashion has made in the Western world, particularly against the political climate of recent years, has been remarkable. Afia and a number of other Islamic fashion bloggers have started to generate great followings on sites like YouTube and Instagram and we believe that it is only a matter of time before their style and panache integrates further into the mainstream.

So we offer our congratulations that Nura Afia and look forward to finding out what she can bring to the Cover Girl organization in her new role as a brand ambassador.

Jubbas offers a wide range of hijabs, so if you would like to emulate Afia’s style please feel free to browse our product line.
