Reasons Why Veganism May be For You

  • 2 min read

If you’ve ever seen the hit TV show Made in Chelsea, you’ll have likely heard of Jamie Lang before. But did you know that, apart from his role in the show, Jamie has also launched a line of vegan sweets?

Made using natural ingredients, and featuring a range of authentic flavours, Jamie’s Candy Kittens range is available at Jubbas.

They taste great. That’s a given. But we’re going to take a little time to talk about veganism here, and why you may consider making the switch from eating meat to going vegan.

Reason #1 – Protecting Animals

This is the main reason why many people go vegan. Animal protection extends further than taking care of pets and occasionally donating to animal causes. For many vegans, the act of slaughtering animals for food is unacceptable. In particular, many vegans take umbrage at the idea of battery farming.

If you feel a connection to animals, or hold the belief that all animals have the right to live naturally and free, veganism may be the right choice for you.

Reason #2 – Vegan Diets are Nutrient Rich

Vegans eliminate all meats from their diets, typically replacing them with plant-based foods that are extremely high in nutritional value. This is vital for your body, which needs large daily doses of various vitamins and nutrients to operate at its peak level.

A vegan diet usually consists of fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and beans. Combined, these foods ensure the eater gets a good dose of beneficial plant compounds, antioxidants, nutrients, and vitamins.

Reason #3 – It’s Now Much Easier to be Vegan

Being vegan was much more difficult 20 years ago than it is today. Back then, you really had to work at sourcing your food to ensure there were no animal products used in them. Furthermore, many restaurants struggled to cater to vegans, perhaps believing that their vegetarian options were good enough.

That’s all changed in 2017. Today, there are plenty of restaurants and food manufacturers that cater exclusively to vegans. It’s no longer a struggle to find suitable foods to maintain a healthy diet. Furthermore, many food manufacturers, such as Jamie Lang, offer food products that stretch beyond the foods traditionally associated with veganism.

Reason #4 – Protecting the Environment

Environmentalism has been an important issue since the turn of the Millennium, and it’s really coming to the fore in the wake of certain political actions. Many vegans make the argument that the combined force of mass animal rearing and meat production equipment is harmful to the environment.

There’s some evidence to this as well. Many in the scientific community point towards the methane emissions that result from cow farming as one of the key influencers in global warming.

Furthermore, many vegans argue that opting for a plant-based diet uses fewer of the Earth’s resources than eating meat. According to The Vegan Society, we’d only need a third of the land that we currently use for food production if everybody made the switch to veganism.

So those are just some of the arguments for switching to a vegan diet. If you want to test the waters for yourself, why not try some of Jamie’s Candy Kittens today?
